Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations
As fate would have it, Dr. Hamad was appointed as the delegate of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York from 1984 to 1990, which strengthened his relationship with the African delegations.
During that period, he was chosen as acting Chairman of the Anti-Racism Committee, which made him close to the African delegations during the Zimbabwe Liberation Movement phase ( Rhodesia and South Africa, and during his election campaign for the International Education, Culture and Science Organization (UNESCO), he visited many African countries that are members of the Executive Council, and found a welcome from them, and received support from them to the point that most of them voted for him despite the pressures that were put on them because they were convinced of his program.
